Gilbert O'Sullivan made a triumphant return to the UK Top 20 this week in 1972 with one of his most successful recordings, Alone Again (Naturally), his 5th British Chart hit. The big surprise is that Nilsson claimed the top spot with "Without You" ahead of Don McLean's "American Pie", which stays at number 2. The Chelsea Football team continue their march up the Top 10, moving up to number 5.
