Put The Needle On The Record Week #10 Talk Talk - It's My Life

I think we all have albums we haven't played in years and this feature, hopefully, will encourage you to play the featured album we choose each week.

For this weeks feature we go back to February 1984 and the 2nd album released by Synthpop band Talk Talk, this is an album I had on heavy rotation in the bedsit I was living in at the time, I loved their debut album (that may appear at some point in this feature....you never know!). The album "It's My Life" has superbly crafted songs and Mark Hollis on lead vocals, what a talent he was and is sadly missed today, Hollis was the main songwriter and either wrote or co-wrote every song on the album.

Even today, I have no idea why the band changed direction musically after this album, I gave up on them after the album "The Colour Of Spring", however, the first 2 Talk Talk albums are 80s classics in my book.

The album featured 3 singles, the title track "It's My Life" (criminal that this gem only reached number 46 in the UK Singles chart!), "Such A Shame" (which only peaked at number 49 on the UK Singles chart) and "Dum Dum Girl" (which amazingly only reached number 74 in the UK Singles chart). There were definitely 2 other tracks on the album that could have been singles "It's You" and "The Last Time".

It is disappointing that this album only reached number 35 in the UK albums chart, it deserved better than that, as did the singles.

Kraftman "AZ-5 EP" Out Today

Kraftman has released a new EP called "AZ-5" today, which features 5 tracks.

The EP features a "Radio Edit" and "12 Inch Mix" of "AZ-5" by Kraftman, a remix of the track by Arvid Tuba and 2 exclusive Kraftman recordings of the Telex track "Moskow Diskow".

"AZ-5" is taken from the forthcoming Kraftman album "Chernobyl".

Put The Needle On The Record - Week #9

Put The Needle On The Record Week #9 Pet Shop Boys - Please

I think we all have albums we haven't played in years and this feature, hopefully, will encourage you to play the featured album we choose each week.

For this weeks feature we go back to March 1986 and the debut album by the Pet Shop Boys, "Please", this album had the honour of being the first album I played on the car stereo in my first car! A brilliant album and I am still a massive fan today and they are one of my all time favourite bands (although the last 3 studio albums haven't been that good, "Hotspot" being the best of the last 3 albums, "Electric" is bloody awful!).

The album featured 4 singles, the debut single "West End Girls" (which reached number 1 in the UK Singles charty), "Love Comes Quickly" (Which scraped into the Top 20, peaking at number 19 and for me was a weak choice as a 2nd single, they should have gone for "Tonight Is Forever" or "Why Don't We Live Together?"), I must admit I thought there music career was going to be a short one, after this single struggled chartwise, thankfully, "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money)" was a bigger hit (reaching number 11 in the UK Singles Chart), it also featured one of my favourite Pet Shop Boys B Sides "Was That What It Was" on the 12 inch vinyl record, and finally, "Suburbia", which was re-recorded for the single release and once again featured 2 superb B sides on the 12 Inch vinyl, "Jack The Lad" and "Paninaro" (the single reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart).

The album peaked at number 3 in the UK albums chart.

Kraftman To Release New 5 Track EP

This coming Friday (March 1st) Kraftman will be releasing a new 5 track EP called "AZ-5", "AZ-5" is the button that was pressed at the Chernobyl Nuclear plant that was supposed to have aborted a safety test, instead it triggered the explosion in reactor 4 which caused the 1986 disaster.
