Day 5.....

The Human League - Human (Extended Version)

This has to be one of the best sounding records I have ever heard, the production is unbelievable. It was the only real successful single off their poorly received album “Crash”. The 12 inch extended version is 5 minutes long and still sounds amazing to this day. The 2 tracks on the B Side were an Acapella version of “Human” and an Instrumental version of “Human”, which I was disappointed with when I bought it.

“Human” was released in August 1986 and reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart.

Day 4.....

Kraftwerk - Europe Endless (Original 12 Inch)

As soon as I discovered Kraftwerk, which was in 1978, I bought every vinyl record that became available by them and that included a 3 track 12 Inch Vinyl single, which featured “Showroom Dummies” as the lead track alongside “Spacelab” on the “A” side, whilst the B side was the glorious 9 minute plus epic “Europe Endless”. One of the most beautiful electronic tracks you are ever likely to hear, why this wasn’t released as the single (in edited form) I don’t know.

“Europe Endless” and “Showroom Dummies” were both taken from the “Trans Europe Express” album, whilst “Spacelab” is taken from the album “The Man Machine”.

Released in 1978 it didn’t have any great success chart wise.

Promo Video For The Datapop Track "Unterwegs"

Following on from making my alternative promo video for the new Metroland single "Man In A Frame", I have today released a new promo video I have made, this time for Swedish Electronic duo, Datapop.

I recently featured a Radio Edit I had created of their track "Unterwegs" on one of our shows and it is that track I have made the promo film for. The track is inspirded by Kraftwerk and I like to think my video also has a kraftwerk influence on it too.

The band love the video and have given me permission to upload it to Youtube, so here it is, in all it's glory........

Rockers Revenge Ft Donnie Calvim - Walking On Sunshine (Original 12 Inch Version)

Oh how I love this 12 Inch Single, I first heard it in a local pub when it was played by a DJ, the beat and the synths had me hooked immediately, quite simply one of THE greatest Disco 12 Inch records I own.

Rockers Revenge was a project set up by producer Arthur Baker, it was a short lived affair as they only ever released 2 singles, “Walking On Sunshine” and “The Harder They Come” (another fantastic 12 Inch Vinyl I own)

This is 9 minutes of pure disco heaven. The 12 Inch is backed by an Acapella of the 7 Inch Version, the 7 Inch Single version and “dub” version called “Rockin’ on Sunshine”, which is over 10 minutes long and adds to the overall brilliance of this 12 Inch single.

The song was written by Eddy Grant, who released it as a single in 1979, but it failed to chart. Rockers Revenge released their version in 1982 and fared much better, as the single reached Number 4, in the UK Singles chart.

Day 2.....

Queen - Radio Ga Ga (Extended Version)

I’m not a massive Queen fan but immediately liked “Radio Ga Ga” when it was released and if my memory serves me correctly it is the only 12 inch vinyl single I own of the band.

What is surprising is that the track was written by drummer Roger Taylor.

Again this is a traditional 80s styled 12 Inch Extended version clocking in at nearly 7 minutes, the 12 inch is backed by an extended instrumental on the B side as well as the track “I Go Crazy”, which is the same version that appears on the B side of the 7 inch.

“Radio Ga Ga” was released in late January 1984 and was a massive hit across the world, where it reached number 1 in 19 countries, in The UK the single peaked at Number 2.

Interesting fact about this particular song is that it was played at every live show from 1984 to their last concert with lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1986.

White Lion Radio Discuss 30 Of Their Favourite 12 Inch Singles From The 80s

All this month we are going to focus on our 30 favourite 80s 12 Inch Singles, each day we will post about one 12 Inch Vinyl Single we have in our record collection, following that, we will have a special 2 part show on which we countdown our Top 30 Vinyl 12 Inch singles.

Note we are discussing the 12 Inch Singles in a random order, so it doesn’t spoil the Top 30 Countdown Show.

Day 1.....

A-Ha - The Sun Always Shines On TV (Extended Version)

My favourite A-Ha track, such a powerful sounding Electronic track and the 12 inch version does not disappoint, in typical 80s 12 inch tradition the Extended Version is exactly that, the 7 inch expanded upon.

The single was released 16^th December 1985 and it was the first A-Ha 12 inch I bought.

The extended version is over 8 minutes long, disappointingly there was just the one track on the B side and that was the song “Driftwood”, which has the same length as the 7 Inch B side version.

“The Sun Always Shines On TV” reached Number 1 in the UK Singles Chart.
