Put The Needle On The Record Week #71 Marc Almond - Tenement Symphony
For this weeks feature we go back to October 1991 and the Marc Almond album "Tenement Symphony".
As well as being a massive Soft Cell fan, I also enjoy the electronic side of Marc Almond's solo work and "Tenement Symphony", his 7th album as a solo artist is excellent and includes my favourite Marc Almond solo track "My Hand Over My Heart", a song written with Dave Ball, the other half of Soft Cell, it is a stunning tracks, other gems on this album include "Jacky", "Meet Me In My Dream" (another track co-wrote with Dave Ball) and "The Days Of Pearly Spencer". I don't think it quite reaches the heights of his album "The Stars We Are", that is his best album, along with "The Velvet Trail" (highly recommend this album, a stunning piece of work, with every track being outstanding).
The album features some top notch artists that helped with the recording of the album, the likes of Trevor Horn, Anne Dudley, Dave Ball, JJ Belle and a host of other fabulous musicians.
Three singles was released off the album, "Jacky" (which reached number 17 in the UK Singles chart), "My Hand Over My Heart" (which reached number 33 in the UK Singles chart....criminal!! it should have made number 1) and "The Days Of Pearly Spencer" (which reached number 4 in the UK Singles chart).
The album, surprisingly, only reached number 39 in the UK Album chart.
