Put The Needle On The Record Week #22 Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

For this weeks feature we go back to May 1985 and the Dire Straits album "Brothers In Arms.

"Brothers In Arms" was the 5th album released by Dire Straits and was the first ever album to sell 1 million copies on CD and is definitely the pinnacle of their career, a truly stunning album. It also won several awards, Including a grammy awards and a Brits Award for best album. Q magazine included it in their 100 Greatest British Albums Ever, where it ranked at number 51.

The album featured 5 singles, "So Far Away" (which reached number 20 in the UK Singles Chart), "Money For Nothing", which was the first video to be aired on MTV Europe! (which reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart), the title track "Brothers In Arms" (which reached number 16 in the UK Singles Chart), "Walk Of Life" (which reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart) and "Your Latest Trick" (which reached number 26 in the UK Singles Chart).

The album peaked at number 1 in the UK Album Chart and in total spent 14 weeks at number 1, including a consecutive run of 10 weeks between January 18th and 22nd March 1986.
