Put The Needle On The Record Week #13 Duran Duran - Rio
I think we all have albums we haven't played in years and this feature, hopefully, will encourage you to play the featured album we choose each week.
For this weeks feature we go back to May 1982 and the Duran Duran album, "Rio", remember those expensive video's that were made for the singles lapping it up on boats etc, back in 1982 video jukeboxes were all the rage in pubs and no matter where you went, you could always guarantee endless plays of the Duran Duran video for "Rio" on pub video jukeboxes. I'm not a massive fan of Duran Duran, however their first 3 albums were excellent, of the 3 my favourite is "Seven And The Ragged Tiger", "Rio" and the whole New Romantic scene played an important part of my late teens and early 20s.
There were 3 singles released from the album, the wonderful "Hungry Like The Wolf" (which reached number 5 on the UK Singles Chart), best track on the album as well, "Save A Prayer" (which reached number 2 in the UK Singles chart), and of course the title track "Rio" (which reached number 9 in the UK Singles Chart).
I was delighted when it was announced they were bringing out 2 CD remastered versions of the first 3 albums, I think it was in 2010, boy was I disappointed! The remastering was awful, the worst remasters I have ever heard, they were diabolical, these people that remaster music must be completely tone deaf!
The album peaked at number 2 in the UK albums chart.
