Put The Needle On The Record - Week #4

Weekly feature: Put The Needle On The Record Week #4 The Human League - Dare

I think we all have albums we haven't played in years and this feature, hopefully, will encourage you to play the featured album we choose each week.

For this weeks feature we go back to October 1981 and one of THE greatest albums of the 80s, "Dare" by The Human League, the album catapulted The Human League to mega stardom, with superb production by Martin Rushnet.

I own 2 vinyl versions of this album, standard black vinyl and a picture disc.

The album featured 4 stunning singles "The Sound Of The Crowd" (which reached number 12 in the UK singles chart), "Love Action (I Believe In Love)" (reached number 3 in the UK singles chart) "Open Your Heart" (Which reached number 6 in the UK singles chart) and of course "Don't You Want Me" (which reached number 1 in the UK singles chart), all the singles embraced the 12 inch vinyl format. The album also hit the top of the UK albums chart and is one of those albums where virtually every track could have been a single, especially the tracks "Darkness" and "Do Or Die".

Track listing

The Things That Dreams Are Made Of
Open Your Heart
The Sound Of The Crowd
Darkness
Do Or Die
Get Carter
I Am The Law
Seconds

Put The Needle On The Record - Week #3

Weekly feature: Put The Needle On The Record Week #3 (Erasure - The Circus)

I think we all have albums we haven't played in years and this feature, is a good idea, that hopefully, will encourage you to play the featured album we choose each week.

For this weeks feature we go back to March 1987 and Erasure's album "The Circus", this wasn't the first Erasure I bought, as I already had in my collection the album "Wonderland" (how that album wasn't massive I will never know). "The Circus" was their breakthrough album, reaching number 6 in the UK albums chart. The album featured 4 singles, the hugely successfull "Sometimes" (reached number 2 in the UK Singles chart), "It Doesn't Have To Be" (reached number 12 in the UK Singles chart), "Victim Of Love" (reached number 7 in the UK Singles chart and is one of my all time favourite Erasure tracks) and "The Circus" (reached number 6 in the UK singles chart, one of my least favourite Erasure singles, "Hideaway" should have been the 4th single).

The album came with a 4 track promo sampler 12 Inch vinyl record, which I still have, it featured the tracks "Don't Dance", "Hideaway", "If I Could" and "Victim Of Love".

Track listing

It Doesn't Have To Be
Hideaway
Don't Dance
If I Could
Sexuality
Victim Of Love
Leave Me To Bleed
Sometimes
The Circus
Spiralling

So if you have the album in your collection and have n't played it in a while, dig it out and give it a spin!

Put The Needle On The Record - Week Number 2

Put The Needle On The Record Week #2 (Gary Numan - The Pleasure Principle)

I think we all have albums we haven't played in years and this feature, is a good idea, that hopefully, will encourage you to play the featured album we choose each week.

For this weeks feature we go back to 1979 and Gary Numan's album "The Pleasure Principle", the first proper LP I bought. The album reached number 1 in the UK Albums chart 1979 and featured the singles "Cars", which was a number 1 hit in the UK's Singles chart and "Complex", a curious choice as a single, the tracks "Metal" and "Films" would have been a better choice, that said "Complex" did make number 6 in the UK's Singles chart.

Track listing

Airlane
Metal
Complex
Films
M.E.
Tracks
Observer
Conversation
Cars
Engineers

So if you have the album in your collection and have n't played it in a while, dig it out and give it a spin!

A New Blog Feature - Put The Needle On The Record

We have a new Weekly blog feature for you, in which we highlight a classic album in the White Lion Radio vault, the feature is called "Put The Needle On The Record Week".

Put The Needle On The Record - Week #1

I think we all have albums we have n't played in years and this feature, is a good idea, that hopefully, will encourage you to play the featured album we choose each week.

To start things off we have "The Man Machine" by Kraftwerk, the first Kraftwerk LP I bought, released in 1978 (I bought the album in 1979 after hearing "Neon Lights" played on BBC Radio 1), the album features 6 tracks, including the singles "The Robots" which failed to make the UK Singles chart, "Neon Lights", which peaked at number 53 in the UK charts and of course "The Model", which was a hit in 1981 after it appeared on the Kraftwerk single "Computer Love" as a B side, DJ's started playing "The Model" and as such it was released as a single in its own right and reached number 1 in the UK singles chart.

The album peaked at number 9 in the UK Album Charts in 1982, some 4 years after its initial release.

Track listing

The Robots
Spacelab
Metropolis
The Model
Neon Lights
The Man Machine

So if you have the album in your collection and have n't played it in a while, dig it out and give it a spin!
